Support the “Build A Library Project for Aggrey Road 1 Primary”

Aggrey Road 1 Primary School Is one of the cluster of public primary schools located at A Lang in Community two Tema. It was established in 1961 and is made up of six classrooms. Due to an increase in the number of pupils enrolled, the classrooms became too small for the pupils. This led to more teachers to be posted or transferred to the school thus giving birth to the shift system where a stream of A students attend in the morning whilst another group B stream goes in the afternoon. This practice went on till other primary classes were built on the same compound due to the huge increase in enrolment. This led to the formation of a cluster of schools named Aggrey Road 1, 2, 3, 4 Primary Schools. With these clusters the schools reverted back to the straight day schooling system.

Enrolment continued to increase and even with the four different schools, the shift system was started again. However, by the early part of the 21st century, a few mission schools and private schools were established in the Community two area. Parents withdrawing their biological children from the public schools which led to a sharp reduction in enrolment to the extent that as at now, the four different primary schools have been merged into two schools Aggrey Road 1 and 2 Primary Schools.

Aggrey Road 1 is presently a single stream school with eight classrooms, kindergarten 1 to basic stage 6. It has a population of 263 pupils. The school now has a few vacant classrooms that could be used for other purposes to promote effective teaching and learning in order to increase enrolment.   Among several other reasons the sharp decrease in enrolment has been highly associated to lack of educational facilities such as a library, an information Communication Technology laboratory, Science laboratory, playground for kindergarten pupils and a dilapidated school structure.
