Reuben Griffiths Bekoe a Senior High School graduate and a past Latitude ICS volunteer is raising money for the Ghana Cleft Foundation. The foundation operates on people with Cleft and offer medical assistance free of charge! Since August 10 2015, Reuben has been riding through Ghana to raise funds to help the Ghana Cleft Foundation. According to Reuben he is riding to help them get enough funds to bring back the smiles of kids. As an orphan himself he doesn’t think it takes much to make a change. “I choose to ride for the foundation to give hope to those who need it since I didn’t get enough help. It always saddening to smile and these kids cant return your smile with a smile” he added.
He shared his experiences on the ride so far, these are excerpts from his timeline on Facebook:
“The smiles of these children keeps me going. As part of my journey of cycling across Ghana in raising funds for the Ghana Cleft foundation, I also share the stories of people I meet on my tour. This week happens to be ACW active citizen week and as part of it, I had a talk with these young leaders about the importance of sports and education with good health. Before talking to them I scared them by saying if there is one of them who isn’t in school, am not going to talk to them. Then I saw a lad with a sad face (*will be profiling him later) telling me he wasn’t in school… Did you know that this team was set-up by one disabled unschooled young man? Man watch this space for more interviews. Love working for God and country. #Ghana #Liberia #footballforhope #Education Don’t judge”.
“Hello everyone I completed my 74km bicycle ride from Takoradi to Cape Coast. I must say it wasn’t the best of rides but I made if for the love of#Volunteering and helping others. I am doing this #Charity ride for the Ghana #Cleft foundation who offer free surgeries for children with cleft deformities; this foundation operates with funds from generous people like you. My part is to ride and yours is simply by donating every change you get from the market to help restore a smile. I would want you to help me raise GhC1000-GhC2000 over the next 2 weeks while I am in Cape Coast. Send your donations to Ecobank A/C 0213074414843601 (Kumasi branch) or Mobile money # 0263161964. Dial *718*30*3# and make your pledge. Online donations should be made https://life.indiegogo.com/…/riding-across-ghana-for-the-gh… Tag or mention a friend to make a donation or a pledge. Thank you. #Reubenrides #Ghana #CHARITY#fundraising #bicycletour.”
