Dr. Patrick Awuah Jr. is the visionary behind one of Africa’s prestigious universities, Ashesi University-College. He is the founder and president of the private and not-for-profit institute located in Brekuso in the Eastern Region. Just to give you some background history on Dr. Awuah Jr., he attended Achimota Secondary School and went further to purse a degree from Swarthmore College in Engineering and Economics. And later attained an MBA from the University of Californian. In addition he holds a doctorate from Swarthmore College and Babson College awarded to him in 2004 and 2007 respectively.
Patrick Awuah is a true Ghanaian hero, he left his work as a project Manager at Microsoft and returned to Ghana to find a solution to a teething problem. According to Patrick, ‘’behind every challenge were people in position of responsibility who were neither fixing problems nor creating solutions. Very few seemed to care, and even those who did were resigned to the status quo.’’ Patrick strongly believed that ‘’If we want different results we must try something different.’’
And so, the Ashesi story began…….Ashesi University was established in 2002 with 30 students and currently has a student population of about 600 .The University has now grown from strength to strength and has received recognition both locally and internationally. Patrick Awuah who is the Founder of Ashesi University has brought all his skills into bear in making Ashesi what it is today – a true reflection of him.
Patrick Awuah is hardworking and an inspiration to all. He is a Fellow of the African Leadership initiative, member of the order of Volta conferred on him by His Excellency J.A Kufour former President of Ghana. Also a member of the United States Council of Foreign Relations, the Pacific Council of International Policy, and a member of the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA) USAID. Patrick Awuah is a gem in our time no wonder in 2012 Pricewaterhouse Coopers named him the 4th most respected CEO and Ashesi University the 7th most respected Company. In 2014, Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship named him the Social Entrepreneur of the year. He has sown a seed in Ghana that has grown and will grow to bear fruits not only for Ghana, but also Africa and the whole wide world.
