President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo earlier this week launched the new National Digital Property and Addressing System.
The system is location-based and it is expected to provide an effective means of addressing every part of the country irrespective of it is located
The app will generate a unique code for every property or location in Ghana, using the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
A national address registry will be embedded into the system to enable individuals to validate their home and business addresses for easy direction and identification purposes.
The system is going to be a major turnaround for a country that has a huge problem with its addressing system. The country was last mapped in 1974 and lacks an efficient addressing system which has become a hindrance to development and planning.
This is the beginning of a new era where Ghanaians will no longer use landmarks to give directions. You can easily do that with the help of this system.
The digital address system would bring the needed change that would be of enormous benefit to the Ghanaian economy. It will create more opportunities for the Youth and also boost the delivery services of Ghana Post. The economy is on its way to being digitally verified in its operations, which will help broaden the tax base and widen financial inclusions which eventually will lead to National Development.
Designed by VOKACOM, a Ghanaian firm, and deployed in partnership with the Ghana Post Company Ltd and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), the system would make it easier to give directions henceforth and facilitate the work of emergency services.
