MTN FA Cup Final to Play Host to Ghana’s “El Clasico”

After recent struggles in the Ghanaian Premier League, the two biggest clubs in Ghana are back to where they belong. Both teams overcame their respective hurdles to reach the final of this year’s MTN FA Cup.

Hearts of Oak have now made it to their first final in 17 years. In addition to recent good performances in the League as well, we must say Frank Natal has done a great job so far in charge of the Phobians. Now he should target more trophies with the Accra-Based side in the near future. Hearts of Oak saw off Wa All Stars in style. The Phobians could have blown away their opponents in the second half if they had buried the numerous chances that came their way. But Hearts of Oak managed to hold on to their lead in the second half and booking their place in the MTN FA CUP Final.

For Kumasi Asante Kotoko, it took them an extra time winner from Sadick Adams, against Medeama SC to book their place in the final. Both teams were very cautious in the first half.  The second half saw the game opening up, as both teams tried to take the lead in the match. As the match went on, it was evident that it would take a mistake or a moment of genius from either side to win the contest. After 90 minutes of no goals, the tie had to continue in extra time. Kotoko put up an improved performance in the extra time to sail through to the final.

The MTN FA CUP Final will be the 1st time in 27 years that Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will cross paths with each other in the FA CUP Final. The good old days are coming back. We are about to witness an entertaining match between these two giants of Ghana Football on the 29th of October in Tamale. It definitely wouldn’t be short of drama.
