Ghana lost a gem in sports yesterday as ace journalist Christopher Opoku passed away after a long-fought battle with cancer. Chris left behind a wife and 3 daughters.
Born in Scotland 41 years ago, Chris had a very successful sports presentation career spanning over 18 years. He began his career with Luv FM in Kumasi, before moving on to television. He was widely regarded as the face of sports for Metro TV. He also hosted some sports shows on GTV. His last stint in radio was with Citi FM in Accra. He also wrote for footy-ghana.com and christopheropoku.com.
In 2008 and 2009, he was awarded the best Football Commentator and Best Football Journalist by the Premier League Board (PLB). He also served as the Secretary of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) in 2013.
Forever the Liverpool fan, in his final tweet on April 23rd, he was seen fretting on how his beloved club could miss out on the top 4 in the English premier league.
In addition to his work as a journalist, Chris was a relationship counsellor and freelance vocal music director.
