Writers Project of Ghana Author for May: Ogochukwu Promise

For the month of May, Writers Project of Ghana and the Goethe Institute proudly present Nigerian author Ogochukwu Promise at our reading series.

The date for the reading is Wednesday 25th May 2016. The time is 7.00 PM prompt, and the venue is the Goethe Institute, Accra.

Ogochukwu Promise is the founder and director of The Lumina Foundation, administrators of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa.

In 1999, she received the Cadbury Prize for poetry with her collection, My Mother’s Eyes Speak Volumes. Her novel, Surveyor of Dreams won the Spectrum Prize for prose in the same year. In 2000, she received the Okigbo Poetry Prize for Canals in Paradox and again won the Spectrum prize for Deep Blue Woman in the same year.

Her writing has won her several other prizes (ANA/NDDC (2002), Matatu Prize for children’s literature (2002), Flora Nwapa prize for prose (2003), and the Pat Utomi Book prize (2004). Her other works include The Street Beggars, Fumes and Cymbals, In the Middle of the Night, Swollen and Rotten Spaces and Naked Among These Hills. She also co-edited, with Ivor Agyeman-Duah the collection, Crucible of the Ages: Essays in Honour of Wole Soyinka at 80.

Promise is an Azikiwe Fellow in Communication and a Fellow of Stiftung Kulturfonds and holds a PhD in Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan. Find out more here: ogochukwupromise.org.
