GEIG Launch Event In Kumasi, 13th December 2014
Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) is a foundation that seeks to provide academic and financial support for girls, including those with special needs, beginning in Junior Secondary School (JSS) so they can access higher education and professional opportunities. Founded by Elizabeth Akua-Nyarko Patterson, GEIG was registered and incorporated as a non- governmental/ non-profit organization in December 2013.
Since its establishment, GEIG has selected 13 JSS students to be in their pioneer class with six students coming from the Greater Accra region and seven from the Ashanti region.
Through preliminary interviews and testing, GEIG have observed that there are students with identifiable but undocumented learning and cognitive differences. These students will receive an orientation from August 3rd to the 24th, comprising of academic content, personal, and professional development. This will be the students’ introduction to the Academic Support Program, which is ongoing through the academic year.
As part of GEIG’s effort to seek further support, they are hosting a launch event on Saturday, 13th December from 7:30-10:30pm. The event will be held at Lizgat Conference Room, Aprade Junction (Glory Oil Filling Station) Kumasi. The event will serve as a celebration of the students’ achievements and the organization’s founding.
