In partnership with the Writers Project of Ghana, Zaafiarts Production presents the stage play –Through A Film Darkly as its first major production.
Through Film Darkly is an original play written by Ghanaian writer JC Degraft published on the 1st of January 1970. The play’s name was changed to Through A Film Darkly from its initial title- Visitors From The Past. Since publication, the play has been described as a 70’s classic and one of Ghana’s best plays encated and directed by several production houses and theater household names including Brew Riverson Jnr.
Speaking with the director of the play under Zaafiarts, Rita Richardson explained that, the main aim of Zaafiarts is to promote and revive Ghanaian Theatre and Through A Film Darkly is one of such classics that deserved recognition
The play centers around John a ‘Been to” now married and very responsible as a father, husband, and friend. However, his intolerance towards white people is a shortcoming to which his wife Sewah cannot put a finger on. She also cannot believe her luck in finding a “faithful’ husband until a weekend holiday and a visit from the past digs up some unfinished business for everyone.
The play is definitely a must watch for all literary and theater lovers as well as persons interested in the classical Ghanaian writing and ideologies. It promises to be a great showcase of words coming into action.
