Barcamp Ashesi 2016 is a free networking forum bringing people together for learning, sharing, networking and mentoring. It takes place on March 19 in Berekuso at the Engineering Auditorium of Ashesi University. The theme for this year is “Design Africa, Design thinking as the hope for Africa’s growth and development.”
“Africa is on the verge of a breakthrough. Many great minds are setting the stage for huge technological advancements in all engineering fields. It’s time we harnessed the climate to Design solutions for Africa that are tailored to Africa’s people and their needs.”
BarCamp Ashesi 2016 will be the second of its kind. It is being organized by the Ashesi African Renaissance Movement in conjunction with the GhanaThink Foundation. GhanaThink has successfully organized 56 BarCamps in Ghana as part of its Barcamp Ghana program since 2008 and 3 Affiliate Barcamps. Barcamp Ghana is building a network of changemakers, doers and entrepreneurs.
The Barcamp will feature multiple user-generated breakout sessions about engineering, technology and development, alongside topics relevant to design and Africa. There will be a speed mentoring session where mentors will give insights and answers to questions from attendees. Some of the confirmed resource personnel include David Hutchul (Grameen Foundation), Dela Kumahor (Cobalt Partners). Farida Bedwei (Logiciel), Gordon Adomdza (Ashesi DLab), Jorge Appiah (Creativity Group), Kuukuwa Manful (SociaArchi), Edward Pie (Software Developer), Sidney Kwei-Nortay (Architect), etc.
