The Rheumatology Initiative, TRI Ghana is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, advocacy and research into the Autoimmune Rheumatic Conditions in Ghana and Africa and providing support, services and hope to persons affected and their loved ones.
Over the past four years, we have been the only sympathizers to many sufferers of these diseases. The organization thus seeks to address on their behalf, issues that affect their lives on many fronts; at work, school and at home. To help patients cope with the traumatic effects of living with auto-immune diseases, we created a support group that offers group therapy sessions and doubles as source of information, and healing interaction outside the consulting room.
TRI organizes free bead and soap making classes twice every month for members who cannot cope with regular work because of their condition, to equip members to make some income on their own to help cater for their healthcare bills and other responsibilities.
We have also provided drugs and medical services to patients in critical condition who cannot afford them. We are very committed to spreading awareness and contributing to the fighting of these diseases in Ghana and beyond. As such we organize awareness talks at various educational, religious and social institutions.
All these activities and support we give have been possible through the contributions from individuals and also funds raised during our annual event dubbed, POEtRi. In August 2015, the maiden edition of POEtRi was launched; it is a one night event using a less-energy-demanding, yet fun packed and educative means to raise awareness about autoimmune conditions and also raise funds to support the initiative.
This year’s event promises to be much bigger and better with a repeat performance from prominent jazz personality Rama Brew, also on the bill includes contemporary afro pop singer Adomaa and acoustic guitarist Six Strings. We also have a line-up of amazing young contemporary poets, acoustic music performers, and comedians like James Brown and Kemikal.
POEtRi 2 is happening on the 10th of September 2016, at the Christ the King Hall from 5pm to 8pm. Ahead of this event is a mini bazaar from 3pm to showcase and sell products some of our members have created,
